Being bored is a privilege. Sit with this for a second.

How lucky are you to have time.
Time to sit with someone you love.
Time to wander.
Time to stare at the ocean, listen to a podcast, daydream in a parking lot, or simply exist without the world dragging you by the ankle.

A few days ago I was driving slowly through a grocery store parking lot, just meandering along listening to a podcast, when a little girl and her dad started crossing in front of me.

She was on this tiny pink bicycle.
Her dad had groceries hanging from both arms like he was competing in the Dad Olympics.

I stopped to let them pass.
The dad looked up and gave me that quick “thank you” nod before trying to hurry his daughter across because he clearly felt bad holding people up.

But this little girl?
Absolutely not.

She slammed the brakes on her bicycle and stopped dead in the middle of the crossing because she’d spotted flowers in one of the planters nearby.

Not kidding.
She just sat there in complete awe. Like the entire universe had paused for her.

Her dad started panicking a little and tried ushering her along, but she wouldn’t move. She was completely hypnotized by these flowers. No stress. No schedule. No emails. No notifications. Just pure curiosity and wonder.

Then the dad looked back at me.

And I could literally see his whole body tense up, like he thought I was about to yell or get angry for being delayed.

Instead, I stuck my head out the window and shouted:

“NEVER STOP HER FROM SMELLING THE FLOWERS. I’M IN NO RUSH… AND I’M ACTUALLY JEALOUS.”

The guy burst out laughing.

Then something happened that honestly punched me right in the soul a little bit.

He put the groceries down, walked over beside his daughter, wrapped his arm around her… and together they both stopped to smell the flowers.

Right there in the middle of a parking lot.

And for a second the whole world felt quieter.

Moments like that make me realize boredom isn’t something to fear. It’s something to appreciate.

Because spare time is a luxury so many people would give anything for.

Some people never get enough time with the people they love.
Some people never get the chance to slow down long enough to notice the flowers.
Some people are fighting battles we’ll never see, wishing for just one peaceful afternoon to simply exist.

And somehow… here we are.

Alive.

Floating on a spinning rock through infinite darkness, worrying about emails while clouds are out here shaped like dinosaurs and pirate ships.

So if you find yourself bored today, maybe don’t rush to kill it immediately.

Look up at the sky.
Make a cloud animal.
Learn one weird thing about your surroundings.
Sit in silence for a minute.
Let your mind wander.

And when it wanders somewhere interesting… follow it a little further.

Because no moment will ever happen the exact same way twice again.

Not the belly laughs.
Not the embarrassing moments.
Not the random parking lot flower incidents.

None of it.

So protect your thoughts.
Cherish the weird little moments.
Be grateful you even get to experience them.

And most importantly…

Embrace the boredom.

Because boredom is often where the beautiful stuff quietly begins.

Much Love as always Todd
