Let’s talk competition.
Not the kind where you throw elbows on Black Friday to grab the last air fryer. I’m talking about the invisible kind. The kind where you wake up every morning and stare down the most persistent opponent you’ve ever faced…
Yourself.
See, we like to think we’re competing against other people. That the race is against the guy who gets the promotion, the friend who hits their fitness goals first, or that annoyingly perfect couple on Instagram who somehow both have six-packs and matching paddleboards.
But truth is, you're not really competing against anyone else. You're competing with yourself — to be a better version of you than you were yesterday. You're chasing your own growth, not someone else's highlight reel.
And let me tell you: it’s a dirty fight.
You're not battling strangers. You're battling the voice in your head that says “eh, skip the workout,” the procrastination goblin that lives in your phone, and the inner critic who’s somehow never taken a day off. Those are your real demons. And they don't play fair.
So if you "lose" one day — if you skip the gym, miss a deadline, or eat your feelings via a bag of jalapeño kettle chips — did you really lose?
Or did you just learn what round you’re in?
Because here's the secret: there is no final round. There’s no trophy ceremony for winning life. The game resets every day. Every sunrise is a new match against the same opponent: the you that didn’t want to show up.
And guess what?
Showing up is the win.
You don’t need to beat anyone else to feel proud of yourself. You just need to be a little braver, a little kinder, a little more committed to the climb than you were last time. That’s it.
So this week, if you find yourself slipping into comparison mode, or spiraling into “I should be further along” territory — take a breath. Then ask:
Am I improving? Am I showing up? Am I still in the fight?
If the answer is yes… you’re not losing.
You’re leveling up.
And if you’re losing to yourself today? Great. You know exactly who you’re up against tomorrow.
Keep swinging.
